Detroit mayor reaches out to suburban neighbors
Business Week
Mayor Dave Bing has appealed to Detroit's suburban neighbors to work with his administration and help pull his struggling, near-bankrupt city from its financial mire for the good of the region.
But the professional basketball Hall of Famer and founder of Bing Steel said Friday morning during a breakfast gathering in affluent Bloomfield Hills that Detroit has to first show it can help itself.
"We're going to need your help, your intellectual capacity, your financial capacity," Bing told several dozen people at Kirk in the Hills church, about 15 miles north-northwest of Detroit.
